Accolades, fine wine and mouth-watering cuisine ruled the night at the Persatuan Oklahoma City University (OCU) Alumni Dinner on 6 October 2017. Held at the Bankers Club in Kuala Lumpur, it was a night to remember for Cheng & Co’s Managing Partner Professor Dato’ Dr Chua Hock Hoo as he was conferred the Distinguished Meinders Fellow by Meinders School of Business, Oklahoma City University.
OCU was established in 1904 and is one of the largest Private United Methodist universities in the world. Located in Oklahoma City, OCU has an average enrolment of more than 1,800 undergraduate students and 600 graduate students from 46 states and 43 different countries. OCU has been consistently ranked as a top-tier, master’s-level university by US News and World Report. In Malaysia, there are more than 3000 OCU alumnus in various fields of expertise.
The night was a momentous occasion for the OCU Alumnus and Alma Mater as everyone came together to celebrate their time and ties with this prestigious university. The Dean of OCU’s Meinders School of Business Professor Dr Steven C. Agee, Dr Marc Wong, Tan Sri Dato Seri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, Datuk David Wong Dak Wah and Dato Dhanaraj Vasudevan were among the VIPs present at the dinner.
The Distinguished Meinders Fellow award – presented to Professor Dato’ Dr Chua by Dean Agee – was indeeda crowning moment for Cheng & Co’s Managing Partner for his unwavering faith and belief in hard work, determination, dedication, and single-minded pursuit of his vision to drive Cheng & Co towards becoming the leading home-grown international accounting firm.
The award recognises Professor Dato’ Dr Chua as a highly successful business leader who advocates and practises the power of knowledge sharing as the most effective method for creating positive, transformational change. He was also commended for enhancing the international accounting field via his pursuit of global expansion through strategic business partnerships and cooperation.
As an innovator, Professor Dato’ Dr Chua has encouraged and implemented state-of-the-art business systems and applications to help create a more efficient operational environment for Cheng & Co and other international firms. On the OCU front, he has been a consistent champion for his Alma Mater in advancing the Malaysian chapter of the OCU Alumni and played a key role in hosting numerous OCU related events for more than two decades.
The night was also memorable for Bankers Club Board Member Mr Hisham Bin Harun, Wine Connoisseur Mr Goh Soon Leong and Founder of A-Look Eyewear Dato’ Terry Ngeow as they were all honoured with OCU’s Distinguished Honorary Fellow award. Mr Goh also received the Commandeurs d’Honneur by the Commanderie du Bontemps in recognition of his contribution and commitment to wines from the vineyards of the Left Bank of the Gironde in Bordeaux, France.
After the presentation ceremony, guests were treated to the famed Chinese Shunde dishes and an array of prestigious red and white French wines.
