Do you know that, as Director of PLCs, you are required to attend The Mandatory Accreditation Programme Part II: Leading for Impact?

On 6 June 2023, The Securities Commission Malaysia (“SC”) and Bursa Malaysia had announced the roll out of a new mandatory onboarding programme on sustainability for members of Boards of Directors of Public Listed Companies (“PLCs”) in the Main Market and ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia.

The Mandatory Accreditation Programme (“MAP”) Part II: Leading for Impact (“LIP”) is an extension to the existing MAP, now known as MAP Part I under the Bursa Malaysia Main Market and ACE Market Listing Requirements (collectively, “the LR”).

MAP mainly focuses on corporate governance, including director’s roles, duties and liabilities as well as other obligations under the LR.

The requirement will become officially mandatory from 1 August 2023 (effective date) onwards for the following types of board members:

  • First-time directors and directors of listing and transfer applicants, and they must complete the programme within 18 months from the date of appointment or admission, respectively; and
  • Existing directors of PLCs on the Main and ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia, and they must complete LIP within 24 months, by (on or before) 1 August 2025.
