Just over a year ago, Cheng & Co’s drive towards becoming the largest home-grown international accounting firm by 2020 went into high gear when the firm became a member of the prestigious TGS Global network. This has greatly strengthened Cheng & Co’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region and since then, a number of TGS members from other countries have dropped by our headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Cheng & Co too has made numerous visits to TGS members abroad with the most recent trip being India. Chief Executive Officer Tom Wong and Tai Ming Ming, Director of Global Business Services, Pro B Centre Sdn Bhd travelled to New Delhi, to meet K.G. Somani & Co (KGS), a third generation Chartered Accountant firm, that has been in practise in the country for over five decades. It was indeed an eye-opening experience to engage with a prestigious firm like KGS.
TGS India
We met the Founder and Managing Partner of KGS, Mr KG Somani who is also the past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Accompanying Mr Somani was his partner, Mr Anuj Somani and Mr R P Tak and they shared great insights on the accounting profession, business environment and opportunities in India. They also arranged meetings with Indian businessmen to give us an idea of doing business in the country.
Cheng & Co took the opportunity to visit the High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi and met Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs, Mr Mohd Iqbal. Together with his team Mr Mohd Iqbal explained about business opportunities for Malaysian Companies in India. He also advised us is that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry can assist Malaysian companies interested in investing or marketing their products in the country.
It was an excellent visit and experience overall as we learnt a great deal about the accounting industry as well as the business prospects in India. This certainly bodes well for our expansion plans which forms an essential part of Cheng & Co’s vision 2020, to become the largest home-grown international accounting firm.
