Cheng & Co participated in the 2017 CEO Roundtable Conference
10 August 2017, the much talked-about CEO Roundtable Conference was held at the Grand Ballroom of the highly impressive Magellan Sutera Harbour, Sabah. Additionally, the Guest of Honour for the conference that night was Sabah Chief Minister YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman.
The Chief Minister also spoke on the history and achievements in the development of Sabah. Moreover, Cheng & Co’s Managing Partner Professor Dato’ Dr Chua Hock Hoo was one of the guest speakers and enlightened the audience on Capitalism & IPO / REIT. Participants at the conference include developers, Government officials, NGOs, and industry Professionals.
The Sabah Housing And Real Estate Developers Association (SHAREDA) was the official organizer for the CEO Roundtable Conference.
Initial Public Offering, Real Estate Investment Trust and Business Succession Planning
In view of addressing the need for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to elevate their businesses to a higher level via fund raising in capital markets, Professor Dato’ Dr Chua touched on the importance of IPO for SMEs and choosing the right capital market to fulfill their potential.
Among the key highlights of his presentation also includes the eligibility and investments in REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) as well as IPO and succession planning success stories. He has many years experience and was willing to share tips and advice with the audience during the conference.
In addition, Cheng & Co has identified Taiwan as a market with great advantages, benefits and long-term prospects for Malaysian entrepreneurs to pursue IPOs hence the firm provides advisory services to clients who wish to list in Taiwan’s capital market. With guests, mainly from the real estate sector, Professor Dato’ Dr Chua spoke of investments of the REIT and highlighted the eligibility and its structure as well as the 18 listed REITs in Bursa Malaysia.
Fund Raising Alternatives
He continued his presentation by sharing alternative fund-raising options for developers in Sabah, besides IPO and REIT. For instance, the SSM Interest Scheme provides advantages such as being able to raise funds of up to RM100 million and the allowance to up your own management company to raise funds. Professor Dato’ Dr Chua also went on to highlight fund-raising opportunities with M Group Australia’s development projects, mainly the M/Group – Single Asset Development Fund and M/Group – P-Class Funds.
In conjunction to the opportunities in Taiwan, Malaysia now offers abundance of opportunities for SMEs looking to list on Bursa Malaysia after the recent launch of Bursa’s Leading Entrepreneur Accelerator Platform (Leap) Market by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in July.
Audience from the conference also attended The SHAREDA Nite 2017 that was held the next day. The glittering 39th Annual Anniversary Dinner was held in the same venue and it was a pleasant evening.
