Incentives for local travel agencies to cushion effects of tourism tax
Special incentives will be provided by the government to local travel agencies to prevent contract cancellations following the introduction of tourism tax, according to the Malaysian Inbound Tourism Association president.
He added that the incentives will be announced once the government determines a suitable mechanism to grant the incentives.
Tourism tax not imposed on Malaysians staying at three-star hotels and below Malaysians who stay at hotels rated three-stars and under will be exempted from paying it while those who choose to stay at hotels rated four-stars and above will be subject to said tax, the Tourism and Culture Minister confirmed.
