Director of Cheng & Co’s Malacca branch and head of the Women’s Leadership Centre, Ms Tay Lee Hoon, recently graduated from the Women In Leadership (WIL) Malaysia programme. The graduation ceremony was held at The Vertical, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur on 2 September, 2016 and Ms Tay’s achievement has tremendously boosted our ambitions to empower women towards building successful careers.
Women in leadership often face numerous challenges such as working in male dominated environments and, balancing work and other commitments. Hence the WIL programme – jointly organised by ICAEW and TalentCorp – focused on supporting the career and progress of women transitioning from mid-to senior management roles to senior management, partner or board level positions, and had participants from many MNCs, GLCs and listed companies.
The WIL programme’s framework consisted four phases – 1. Understand Self, 2. Strategies and Skills, 3. Group Coaching Sessions and 4. Optional Mentoring, before the final review and graduation process. Workshops, discussions and sharing sessions centred around key components such as learning & developing leadership, strategies and styles, career challenges and options, and managing self and the ecosystem.
“I am thankful to our partners for recognising the career development of women in the firm as an integral success factor. The programme has really inspired me a lot and gave me new insights and ideas on moving forward in the leadership journey,” said Ms Tay.
“The objective of our Women’s Leadership Centre is aligned with Malaysia’s mission to promote more women in the boardroom. So we hope through this centre we can inspire and nurture more women in CHENG & CO to elevate themselves and excel in leadership roles,” she added.
