Malacca Office Launch (27th May 2016)

In another milestone achievement for the Cheng & Co Group of Companies, our Malacca branch was officially launched on 27 May 2016. This was another major step forward towards our objective of becoming the leading, home-grown international accounting firm with offices in 100 locations in Malaysia and the region by 2020.

The Malacca branch – strategically located in the central Business District of Malacca town – was officially opened by Cheng & Co’s Managing Partner Prof Dato’ Dr Chua Hock Hoo together with Mr Mark Billington, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ (ICAEW) Regional Director of South East Asia.

The day also marked the official opening of the high-tech Broadcast Centre and also the Women’s Leadership Centre, both in the Malacca branch. Upon the official opening of Wisma Cheng & Co, an MoU signing ceremony took place between Cheng & Co and Kaplan for the Broadcast Centre led by Professor Dato’ Dr Chua and Mr Shepherd respectively.

The Broadcast Centre is a live online learning platform – developed through a tri-party strategic collaboration between Cheng & Co, ICAEW and Kaplan – that will help more Malaysians pursue their dreams of attaining the prestigious ICAEW qualification. Cheng & Co’s Broadcast Centre is the first ever in Malaysia to work with ICAEW & Kaplan.

The Women’s Leadership Centre is geared towards empowering women in building successful careers, taking up decision-making roles in C-level positions, finding the appropriate work – life balance and much more. The centre will be headed by Ms Tay Lee Hoon, a Director at Cheng & Co’s Malacca office.

Ms Tay holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia. She has a great deal of passion, enthusiasm and commitment towards nurturing and developing women leadership.

During the launch of the Women’s Leadership Centre, which was attended by partners, key staff members and guests from ICAEW & Kaplan, Cheng & Co’s clients were treated to an interesting and insightful talk on “lifestyle investment opportunities in Western Australia” by Mr Cameron Barr, Director of M Group from Australia.
