Cheng & Co Participates In The Fourth Industrial Revolution Talk In UKM

Most intense challenges – New technology revolution

The fourth industrial revolution and its potential impact on Malaysia talk by Michael Warren took place on 27 July 2017 at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

It was an eye-opening event that addressed one of the most intense and important challenges that confronts us today – the new technology revolution brought about by the fourth industrial revolution. The talk was mainly to simplified the fourth industrial revolution to prepare the audience as well as all Malaysian for the changes.

Cheng & Co was represented by Managing Partner Professor Dato’ Dr Chua Hock Hoo, Chief Executive Officer Tom Wong and ​Business Development Manager ​Teo Yang Zhi.

In his presentation Michael Warren, Director at Invest KL and Adjunct Professor of UKM’s Faculty of Economics and Management, spoke of, among others, the fourth industrial revolution being an interplay between many fields. The fields are namely, nanotechnology, brain research, 3D Printing, mobile networks and computing that are creating unthinkable realities.

Technological Breakthroughs

Internet of Things (IOT), Big Data, Artificial intelligence and Robotics will likely trigger dramatic changes in industrial and employment structures moving forward.

Some of the challenges that we should prepare for, according to Michael Warren, are sharing of data, cyber security, intellectual protection policies, digital database protection, modality of new rules of competition and clarification of competitive and cooperative areas such as manufacturing, healthcare and medicine.

During the question and answer session, Professor Dato’ Dr Chua stated that he is ​looking forward in seeing universities cultivate graduates to produce new ideas and drive them with passion towards the fourth industrial revolution. For his part, Michael Warren expressed his admiration for Cheng & Co and Professor Dato’ Dr Chua for constantly encouraging individuals to become entrepreneurs.

This is primarily the contribution of the Professional Entrepreneur Program, introduced by Cheng & Co in 2015. It is a platform to guide and support new start-ups, member firms and individuals towards becoming accomplished and innovative accounting practitioners and entrepreneurs.
